The Joy of being Pregnant

This post is about the JOY of being pregnant with a baby. I shall not talk about the woes and shocks I’ve gone through yet.. maybe in a separate post. 🙂

During the second trimester.. despite the pregnancy symptoms like extreme soreness and numbness in my hand that I can’t even sleep at ease, and also still some nausea from the first trimester up till May.. we went to Bangkok for a BABYMOON!!! Hee.. as advised by my gynae, this is the best period to travel when the bump isn’t too big, and good appetite has returned to me too. Heh.. I love the resort stay at Hua Hin, and lotsa shopping for the little one in Bangkok!! And throughout the whole pregnancy, I was very well taken care of by Pail, he is the best hubby I could ask for lah.. he did all the housechores, and cooked meals and red bean soups for me.. he even learnt how to cook bird nest my Dad bought. He has such empathy for me that he has more pregnancy cravings than me, and his taste buds changed gradually because he started eating spicy food! Hahaa.. We also attended Mrs Wong Boh Boi ‘s prenatal classes, which was extremely fun and helpful. We learnt lots and by attending such classes together, I feel it pulls us closer even more, I love to see us working towards the same goal together, giving support to one another!

Moving into the Last trimester, it was fun and happy too, I quite enjoyed it because my bump is getting bigger.. and I know the little one is growing well. It’s very amazing when I can see so clearly that she is kicking me and especially when she has hiccups! Ha! My belly will move with rhythm! Oh ya, my train rides had been great too, because I met many kind souls giving up their seats for me. There are also priorities given to pregnant women whenever there are queues.. Dressing up the bump was fun because I don’t need to worry about being fat or not! Hehz..

Here are some significant Baby Bump shots! Love it when the bump is HUGE! Haha!

My water retention was pretty bad.. my shoes don’t fit anymore, even my wedding band doesn’t fit anymore! But I still wanna wear it so this was what I did.

This is what babies see when parents look at them in baby cots/baby strollers. 😀

I felt sooo hot everyday, temperature raised like duno what.. and I was so happy to hear drinking coconut water is good for last few weeks of pregnancy, whether or not the myth about clean babies is true, I don’t care because it’s so hydrating and cooling!!!

Meeting up with friends were super happy every weekend too, not forgetting, we celebrated our 6th Dating Anniversary at Salt and Grill. I treated every outing with friends as the last outing before I pop!! Coz we don’t know when it’s gonna be!! Hehehe… and all in all, it’s Eating and More Eating, Shopping and More Shopping, and Sleeping.. hmm, nope, sleeping was not fun. I had to sleep sitting up.. and the frequent toilet visits.. Boohoo… I advise all Mommies to get enough pillows, it’s really important and useful!!!

Thankfully, my company allows me to work from home very often as and when required. Being super appreciative of that, I made sure I did not take any advantage of this benefit and I really worked hard in this little corner of the house. By now, I could no longer sit on the floor using the coffeetable, I needed to sit on a proper chair and work on the table. 🙂

Working from Home

Oh! Setting up the nursery was pretty fun. I decided I want a WHITE nursery room that signify PURE for our little one. We wouldn’t want the room to be too over girly, always bearing in mind, 我們要走氣質路線!Haha! Oh, and that’s the gigantic bloated me in pyjamas sitting in the nursery… :p

My gynae has instructed me to do at least 20 squats daily, and do lotsa walking! So that the little one will come out one week earlier, and labor could have been easier. My darling little one seems to have inherited Mommy’s genes; on the plump side! 2.7kg at 37 weeks! Haha! Although shopping is considered walking, but since we have a treadmill at home, I made it a point to walk everyday while watching TV after work (tat’s why makeup is still on!). Heh.. Pail held my hand and did squats with me too, because by now, I feel pain squatting and can’t do it without holding on to something/someone.

Exercise

I’ve been experiencing the tightening of my belly as hard as rock.. and whenever I lie down, it comes and go more often, which I will have difficulty catching my breath, so breathless that I had to wake Pail up to help me sit up to catch my breath!! These are called Braxton Hicks, which are very common throughout pregnancy. They are very similar to contractions, but not feeling any pain.. as they became more frequent, we were thinking could labor be near? So.. the very last few days before I pop, I suggested to Pail to take half day off let’s go dating… celebrating his birthday in advance. 😉

Dear Birthday

Lastly… Heh… the anticipating when the little one is going to pop was exciting!! Could it be 1st Sept? 9th Sept? 11th Sept? Hohoho…this is all we want to say.

Start of 2015

It hasn’t been an easy start in 2015, it has been so far the longest and slowest three months of my life.. 為什麼別人的三個月那麼快過,我的三個月那麼久???

It was at the beginning of 2015, I found out I was pregnant!! We have been trying for a baby since last year, and this was just one of the times where I used a pregnancy test kit. Test kits are too costly in Watsons, so I was using one of those $2 test kits I ordered online, and who knows, this time, a very faint two lines appeared!! I couldn’t believe it myself too.. I even tested again with a Clearblue digital kit that actually tells me the number of weeks. Omg, *rubs eyes* its true, it’s true!!!

Weeks after the discovery, I didn’t sense much changes in my body, except for feeling really tired, sleepy and the frequent visits to the toilet. Oh, and before I know it, at Week 5, I had my first puke in the office toilet. That’s what you call “Morning Sickness”, throwing up for no reason, at any moment of the day, even at night. For me, it’s sickness throughout the whole day, and worst at night.

Oh, and we visited a gynae for check-up too, and that’s when we first saw and hear a lil’ heartbeat thumping in me. I was 7 weeks pregnant, and my EDD is 18th Sept 2015. ^.^

It was only then we released the news to both our parents… heh.. if Baby decides to come out just a lil early, Daddy and Baby’s birthday may fall on the same day? Hehehe… we are a family of September Babies!!

My First BB scan
Hello, 小芝麻.

Never knew how the weeks were counted, didn’t we always ask people 怀孕几个月?Why when it has really happened, everything counts by weeks? Oh, let me explain… because you actually start counting Week 1 on the first day of your last menses! At that time, you are clearly not even pregnant yet.. but that’s how it works apparently. Hehehe.. interesting knowledge to know, yea?

From Week 5 till now, our lives can be summed up in one word, 宅!!!!! I was told to rest and rest and rest, and that’s all I did. I have been a very good girl mommy, I must say. I’ve not sipped coffee or tea for months, and I’ve not touched a slice of sashimi nor eat any salad too. Doctor says avoid alchohol, or too much caffeine and raw food. This is so not me… what to do? Wait till I get my energy back, hopefully in the Second Trimester!! We have been spending tooooo many weekends at home, I was just lying on the sofa watching TV, sleeping and doing nothing. Thanks to Pail, he has been doing all the housechores and cooking for me. A husband’s support is all you ask for at such a time. All the frequent throwing up has drained my energy to do anything or go anywhere, except to office. And even sometimes, I still feel too sick to go out of home, fortunately I was allowed to work from home on those days.

One of the difficulties I had was 大肚婆饿不得!I didn’t have much cravings, but I was hungry all the time but I couldn’t eat much, because whatever goes in, comes throwing up. And there was a constant bitter taste in my mouth all day.. Even our Chinese New Year this year was spent at home, we seeked approval from our parents to be excused from all house visits. Hee hee…..

Pail and I preferred to go low profile. Although a part of me was feeling the urge to share but I held back. I do not want too much attention during this first trimester where my pregnany has not stablised, even my gynae and boss have adviced me that I better wait till the end of my first trimester to share the news. I also thought it’s better I wait till I done my OSCAR scan at Week 12 and also, by then I’ll be more adapted to this pregnancy.

Meanwhile, many observant friends had also noticed why has Suki become so quiet on social media, and all my cooking / baking seemed to be on hiatus. And I haven’t been joining any friends’ gatherings too! So, it’s really kinda obvious somethin is happening!! Hehehe… those who probably have guessed it, I truly appreciate your kindness and respect to not come probe me about it. Please understand it wasn’t easy for me too..

Anyway, by now I’m typing this entry, I’ve completed my OSCAR scan!! This is to scan for any Down Syndrome abnormalities. Results came back to “Low Risk”, so we can now 放心 a bit…. Phew! Baby didn’t cooperate at first, and was facing downwards, we had to exit the room to wait for 15-20mins before the next attempt. I tell you, it’s very interesting one! I was told to toss to my left and right to try different positions so that our baby to turn around.. and the most interesting part was the sonagrapher had to vibrate the ultrasound device against my stomach.. haha.. it’s actually a lil’ painful but actually makes bb turn by creating vibrations. As bb turned over, I can see the nose bone, and hand was moving up and down… but too bad, still can’t tell gender yet!! Hehehehe.. the small dark room was filled with our laughter as we are staring at the screen, looking at our baby. ^.^

All I can say is, Pregnancy is a waiting game!! From trying to conceive, you need to wait for your ovulation day… and then you need to wait till you missed your period… then you need to wait till Week 8 to see a gynae for a scan, then you need to wait for your First Trimester mark for your pregnancy to be stable… and wait for the morning sickness to subside… and next, wait to find out your baby gender… then, a longer wait for your baby’s EDD and arrival… And that’s just the real beginning of a whole new life. You will be welcomed with a month of “Confinement” where you wait to get out of the house and wash your hair…. and till then? Endure the waiting game!!!!

P/s: When can I start eating sashimi???

Looking Back 2014…

Hello, don’t you find it really scary that a year has passed again?! Coz I do!!!! (ok, I’m panicking.. calm down.. ) What have I done? What have you done? Whenever I reflect, I ask myself this question.

*Takes a deep breath & ponder*

This year, is indeed.. all about PailSukiHome and PailSukiKitchen. I must say I’m really proud of our love nest, and every effort we put into making this dream come true. Love how every corner looks, I know I will also need to work harder to keep things as they are!!

Getting another year older reminded us that we need to take better care of our health and body. Through cooking, I realised we can really control what we are eating! Altho, eh-hem, we are still dining alot outside, eating all the unhealthy yummy delicacies la… hee hee… But picking up cooking and baking was in fact kinda expected yet unexpected. Why do I say that? Because I expected I’m the only one doing it, but who knows now Pail can cook even better than me!! Haahaa… thats really a true surprise!! And never did I expect, my baking actually was well-received, and friends start to order fruit tarts from me! Haaha..

All that aside, our life still went on pretty normal. Hanging out with friends, feasting and cafe-hopping, attending a few good friends’ weddings!! In super short summary, this is pretty much what I did in 2014!

Ok, in a less-short summary… We also celebrated our 5th dating anniversary and 3rd wedding anniversary, which is also a great milestone for Pail and I!! 😉 Although this year, we travelled much much lesser than in 2013 (secretly wishing we can travel more in 2015!) the two trips we had were memorable ones! Heehee… In August, we went to Hong Kong with Yan&CZ, that was awesome lotsa fun and laughter! Our second trip of the year took place in December, we went to Taiwan with Pail’s family which was also a great experience for me!! Planning a trip from itinerary to accomodation and dining for 7 is seriously-no-joke!!

Oh, wait a min, did I mention, one of my big achievements was, to teach my Dad how to SMS with me!! Haha! You don’t know how happy I am whenever I receive his SMS now, we used to write each other notes on paper in the past. Now we can SMS! Heheheehehe….

The year ended just like that. Before we know it, today is the second day of 2015. My new year resolution? Hmm.. seriously, do ppl really achieve any resolutions at all? Hahaa…

My only wish every year, 祝我天天都開心 & 身體健康!! 身體要健康才可以_____!
Fill in your own blanks. *winks*
