This is so far the biggest project ever in my life our lives…. it requires even more planning than a Wedding. You either need to put in lotsa efforts or have lotsa money, or to have both, in order to have a beautiful house of your own.
We started reading up a lot in Renotalk, Home&Decor and Squarerooms magazines… Pail and I think it’s a waste of money to hire an ID since we have our own designs in mind already.. although I was still quite concerned whether we have the time and energy to look over our renovations without an ID or not. Of course, if an ID costs about the same as a contractor, we don’t mind an ID. Hahaa…. but most of the time, IDs have a strong mind, and they do not listen to us! So, we decided to go with a contractor in d end! Haha… and reading through the forums, we were attracted to the legendary Mr K. Well, he is only a legend if you read t-blogs la.. =p
On 2013 November 13th, we collected our keys and quickly made appointment to meet up with Mr K (on the same day afternoon), so excited about it…
Three years of wait…. and at last, we stepped into the cement floor of our house. No, it’s not a home yet, but it’s our house! Yay!!!!
but we also know, by engaging his services, we have to wait till CNY.. we didn’t want to rush the reno thru, without thinking enough, and it will be worse if the reno will be stuck halfway done through CNY… so we took it reallllyyy slow.. by CNY, some of our neighbours already moved in! Of course, in the meantime, we met some others (e.g. The80sStudio, and some other contractors) and received many quotes to compare. The strange thing is, the quotes all came back around the same price. How to pick??
* fast forward *
anyways…. in d end, we signed with Mr K. I still believe if he wants to do things fast, he can be super fast, coz due to permit issued dates pressure 3 walls were hacked within a day!! Haha.. in fact, although we signed, Mr K was quite flexible with the quotation and payment. For instance, we weren’t satisfied with the electric quotes from him, so we requested to see it in breakdown by points… and he replaced the lump sum with points x unit price.. it’s only till then we learnt that shifting concealed switches/points/fan points were all separate charges, and installation of hanging lights Vs. normal lights have different price tags too! Mr K told me that if we are not ok with this quote, it’s ok, we can find our own electrician.. he will just strike off the item from our quotation and make necessary deductions… so I approached our dear friend, Jimbo. He introduced his electrician to us, for the same amount of work, he quoted us at half the price instead!! Steady la!!! Now we are ready to start our renovations!! Hohoho….
