the courage to give up something..

Saw this from someone else’s blog.. kinda meaningful and so i post it up!

Only by having the courage to give up something, will you have the opportunity to accept greater things.

Let me share with you how to achieve the lifestyle you rightfully deserved.

One of the major reasons why we fail to find happiness or to create unique lifestyle is because we have not yet mastered the art of being.

While we are home, our thoughts are still absorbed with solving the challenges we face at the office. And when we are at the office, we find ourselves worrying about problems at home.

We go through the day without really listening to what others are saying to us. We may be hearing the words, but we aren’t absorbing the message.

As we go through the day, we find ourselves focusing on past experiences or future possibilities. We are so involved in yesterday and tomorrow that we never even notice that today is slipping by.

We go through the day rather than getting something from the day. We are everywhere at any given moment in time except living in that moment in time.

Lifestyle is learning to be wherever you are. It is developing a unique focus on the current moment, and drawing from it all the substance and wealth of experience and emotions that it has to offer.

Lifestyle is taking time to watch a sunset. Lifestyle is listening to silence. Lifestyle is capturing each moment so that it becomes a new part of what we are and of what we are in the process of becoming.

Lifestyle is not something we do; it is something we experience. And until we learn to be there, we will never master the art of living well.

Everyday, we work hard at work and seek every single opportunity to excel so as to attain recognition for our work and the pay we truly deserved. We need money to buy that condo, that luxurious saloon car, that European overseas holiday, dine and wine at high places, etc, etc. The list just goes on and on, without ending. To us, that is the lifestyle we are working towards to. We are so caught up in the rat race to realize that we are now trap in a merry-go-round.

Imagine you being a dog chasing after its own tail. No matter how hard or fast you run, the tail will always be in front of your nose. After we got that condo, we hunger for that freehold property. After we had that luxurious saloon car, we long for a European executive car fitted with full leather seats. It’s a never-ending chase, yet we perceived that as a lifestyle we are after. We feel we need to attain certain material standards to achieve the lifestyle we deem as fit for ourselves.

That mindset actually distorts the truth about lifestyle. Lifestyle is an experience, a way of meaningful living. Lifestyle is being peaceful yet never boring; being busy yet never stressful. Maybe you should just take a step back and enjoy the serenity of a quiet stroll in the park. Forget about that new car or new apartment. Only by having the courage to give up something, will you have the opportunity to accept greater things.

Happy Planet Index

Introduced by Yanz! I seriously agree with her “..anyone who’s reading this blog should do their ecological footprint. Everyone must make an effort to save the Earth. Start by using less air-con ba….” =D

===========================================

Your personal Happy Planet Index (HPI) is 41.5, which is similar to that of countries such as Egypt, Congo or Denmark. Sorry to say that this is below the world average of 46, and about the same as the UK average. Your score is about the same as that of your country, 40.8.

Below is a breakdown of the various components that make up your HPI score.
You: 41.5
Average: 43.4

Life Expectancy
Hurray! Your life expectancy is well above average for your gender and country. Probably, you’re doing all the major things right – eating well, not smoking, getting regular exercise, and you’re lucky enough to have the right genes. Are there any more ways you could make a difference? Some factors that improve your life expectancy are more surprising than others. For example, giving up your car, avoiding living alone, moving out of the city and shrugging off stress.
You: 89.5
Average: 80.8

Ecological Footprint
Your ecological footprint is 6.06 global hectares, or 3.37 planets, about average for the country you live in.

Oh dear! You are using between three and five times your share of the planet’s resources, even assuming no resources are set aside for other species. That’s well above the world average, and even above the average for most industrialised countries. Perhaps it’s time to start taking action. Here are some of the most effective steps that everyone can make to reduce their footprint:
1.It’s obvious, but we have to say it. Conserve energy. Turn off the lights when you leave a room, buy energy-efficient bulbs and appliances, turn off your TV completely, rather than leave it on standby.
2.You don’t have to become vegetarian, but cutting down on meat, particularly beef, and particularly from animals fed by imported soya feed, is an effective step to reducing your footprint.
You: 6.06
Average: 5.38

Life Satisfaction
You reported a life satisfaction of 7, which is about average for many Western countries, including the UK, Spain and Italy. Worldwide, 58% of respondents in the World Values Survey reported a life satisfaction of 7 or lower.
You: 7
Average: 6.76
i din noe i’m soooo satisfied with my life -.-“

Personal Feelings
You have some anxieties about the future or yourself which are affecting your overall well-being. These are not too severe though…
You: 5.05
Average: 6.04

Personal Functionings
You are healthy and overall feel autonomous, purposeful and able to demonstrate your abilities to others.
You: 6.55
Average: 6.15

Social Feelings
You have a strong sense of trust and belonging in your community and a happy personal life.
You: 5.74
Average: 5.68
oh, do i???

Social Functionings
You are satisfied with your job / course – it is interesting, and only occasionally stressful. Further it normally leaves you enough time to do the things you want to do.
You: 5.46
Average: 5.6
