{"id":955,"date":"2007-09-21T16:45:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-21T08:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ladysuki.net\/blog\/?p=955"},"modified":"2007-09-21T16:45:00","modified_gmt":"2007-09-21T08:45:00","slug":"if-you-were-born-in-the-80s-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ladysuki.net\/blog\/?p=955","title":{"rendered":"if you were born in the 80&#039;s in Singapore.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>keke.. recap from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=2719435179\" target=\"new\">Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You would remember:<\/p>\n<p>You grew up watching He-man, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">MASK, Transformers<\/span>, Silver Hawk and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles<\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Carebears<\/span>, Robocop, My Little Pony and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Smurfs<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in Primary school during recess time.<\/span> You would squat by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brush your teeth with a coloured mug.<\/p>\n<p>You hated or loved the school nurse (she was either pretty or mean).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You know what SBC stands for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You paid 40 cents for cartons of Chocolate or Strawberry milk every week in class.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Everyone&#8217;s wallet used to be the velcro type<\/p>\n<p>It was cool to have pagers in primary school<\/p>\n<p>SBS buses used to be non-airconditioned. The bus seats are made of wood and the cushionwere red. The big red bell gave a loud BEEP! when pressed.<\/p>\n<p>There were still bus tickets and bus conductors would come up to check them.<\/p>\n<p>Envelopes were given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve probably read Young Generation magazine.<\/span>You know who&#8217;s Vinny the little vampire and Acai the constable.<\/p>\n<p>You know what PETS are and the hidden animals in all the text pages. You hated penmanship.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Writing lines and caning hands were common<\/span>, esp if you failed chinese spelling (caning was actually allowed. no shit).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You were there when they first introduced the MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Movie tickets used to cost only $3.50.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Gals were fascinated by Strawberry Short Cake and Barbie Dolls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You learn to laugh like The Count in Sesame Street.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You bought tidbits called beebee (20 cents per pack, 10 cents in MGS), and mamee (30 cents), that had a different sticker in it every time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You carried a lunch box to school but either threw away the food or brought it back home again.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">You watched TV2<\/span> (also known as Channel 10) cartoons because Channel 5 never had enough cartoons for you.<\/p>\n<p>Hardy Boys, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Nancy Drew<\/span>, The Three Investigators, Famous Five and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Secret Seven<\/span> were probably the thickest story books you thought you would ever read.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">KFC used to be a high class restaurant that served food in plates and had metal forks and knives.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">The most vulgar thing you said was asshole and idiot and THE MOST EXTREME WAS &#8216;chicken pie&#8217;&#8230;you just couldn&#8217;t bring yourself to say the hokkien translation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Catching and pepsi-cola was the IN thing, and twist was the magic word.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Your English workbooks were made of some damn poor quality paper that was smooth and yellow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You came to school 15 mins before the bell every morning just so you could copy someone&#8217;s homework.<\/p>\n<p>CDIS was your best friend.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">The only computer lessons in school involved funny pixellized characters in 16 colours walking about trying to teach you math.<\/p>\n<p>Waterbottles were slung around your neck and a must everywhere you went.<\/p>\n<p>Boys loved to play soccer with small stones or tennis balls in the basketball court.<\/p>\n<p>Girls played five stones and boys played with marbles.<\/p>\n<p>Science was fun with the Balsam and the Angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fishes.<\/p>\n<p>Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, immortalized in our minds from school textbooks.<\/p>\n<p>We conducted experiments of our own to get badges for being a Young Zoologist\/Botanist etc.<\/p>\n<p>Every Children&#8217;s day and National day you either got pins or pens with &#8216;Happy Children&#8217;s Day 1993&#8217; or useless plastic files with &#8216;Happy National Day 1994&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>You wore BM2000, BATA, or Pallas shoes.<\/p>\n<p>Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English.<\/p>\n<p>You went to school in slippers and a raincoat when it rained, and you find a dry spot in the school to sit down, dry your feet, and wear your dry and warm socks and shoes.<br \/><\/span><br \/>There would be spelling tests and mental sums to do almost everyday (you hated them).<\/p>\n<p>Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $2 or more for pocket mone everyday.<br \/><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><br \/>You saw Wee Kim Wee&#8217;s face in the school hall.<\/p>\n<p>Boys liked catching fighting spiders, earthworms or tadpoles.<\/p>\n<p>Collecting and battling erasers was a pastime for boys.<\/p>\n<p>Class monitors and prefects loved to say, &#8220;You talk somemore, I write your name ah!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You got booked for muddy shoes in class.<\/p>\n<p>There were at least 40 people in one class.<br \/><\/span><br \/>You brought every single book to school, even though there was a timetable.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">There was a pro-yo\/bumblebee, digimon craze at some point in time.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\">Good deals at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dealdotcom.com\/rss\/7401\">DealDotCom<\/a><\/div>\n\n<!-- Facebook Like Button v1.9.6 BEGIN [http:\/\/blog.bottomlessinc.com] -->\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fladysuki.net%2Fblog%2F%3Fp%3D955&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=false&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowTransparency=\"true\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height: 30px; align: left; margin: 2px 0px 2px 0px\"><\/iframe>\n<!-- Facebook Like Button END -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>keke.. recap from Facebook You would remember: You grew up watching He-man, MASK, Transformers, Silver Hawk and Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles, Carebears, Robocop, My Little Pony and Smurfs.
